Growing memorial in Playa del Rey honors pregnant woman killed by driver

PLAYA DEL REY, Calif. — A growing memorial now stands in Playa del Rey to honor a pregnant mother who was struck and killed by a vehicle while riding bicycles with her family over the weekend.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the crash was reported just after 6 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Pershing Drive and Manchester Avenue. Authorities said a woman and two children were riding bicycles when a driver hit them.

Family members identified the woman as 36-year-old Regan Cole, who was pregnant at the time of the collision. Police said Cole died at the scene. Her unborn baby was delivered by emergency responders but later died, authorities confirmed.

One of Cole’s two children was also struck in the crash and sustained injuries. Police have not released details about the child’s condition but said the child was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Investigators said the driver, described as an elderly man, remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. Police noted that alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash. The circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation.

In the days following the incident, friends, neighbors, and community members have gathered at the site to leave flowers, candles, and messages in memory of Cole and her unborn child. The memorial continues to grow as residents stop to pay their respects and express support for the family.

At this time, police have not announced whether charges will be filed against the driver. Detectives are continuing to review evidence and assess the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has additional information is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles Police Department as the investigation continues.
