SAN ANTONIO, TX – A Far West Bexar County vehicle burglary escalated into a dangerous shootout early Tuesday morning after suspects fired at a homeowner who confronted them.
Midnight Confrontation on Sawbuck Creek
Bexar County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) deputies responded to a vehicle burglary call around 3:00 a.m. near the 10100 block of Sawbuck Creek. A homeowner reported that a vehicle had been stolen from the property.
When a family member attempted to locate the stolen vehicle nearby, they confronted the suspects. According to deputies, the suspects opened fire on the homeowner, who then returned fire. Miraculously, no injuries were reported during the exchange.
Stolen Debit Card Leads to High-Speed Chase
The suspects fled the shooting scene in the stolen vehicle. However, around 5:00 a.m., a stolen debit card from the burglary was used at a business in the 4600 block of Rittiman Road on the city’s East Side.
The digital footprint allowed deputies to quickly track down the vehicle, sparking a high-speed police pursuit. The chase finally came to an end near U.S. Highway 90 and Military Drive West.
Two Suspects Apprehended
Following the pursuit, deputies arrested two individuals at the scene:
- Jose Ricardo Herrera III (22)
- Davian Valentine Martinez (19)
Both men are facing multiple serious charges, including aggravated robbery, burglary of a vehicle, and evading arrest. While the stolen vehicle was recovered, officials noted that no firearms had been found in the initial sweep.
BCSO Issues Urgent Warning to Residents
Following a recent string of vehicle burglaries across West Bexar County, the Sheriff’s Office is strongly advising residents to take precautions.
Officials emphasize that if you witness someone checking car doors or lurking in driveways, do not confront them. Instead, stay inside, call 911 immediately, and preserve any security camera footage for investigators.
