Hospital Shooting Follows Violent Simi Valley Domestic Attack

THOUSAND OAKS, CA – A hospital room shooting at Los Robles Regional Medical Center left an attempted murder suspect in stable condition Thursday morning after an officer opened fire during a medical assessment.

The Initial Domestic Attack

The violent chain of events began around 1:30 a.m. Thursday in Simi Valley. Officers responding to the 2000 block of Clover Street discovered a husband and wife both suffering from severe stab wounds.

According to Simi Valley Police Sgt. Rick Morton, investigators found blood smeared on the walls and floors. Police believe the husband stabbed his wife inside the residence before moving outside to stab himself. Authorities recovered two knives inside and a machete on the front lawn.

The female victim underwent surgery and is expected to survive. The husband was subsequently arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The Hospital Shooting

Because of his self-inflicted injuries, the suspect was admitted to Los Robles Regional Medical Center under constant, 24-hour supervision by a Simi Valley police officer.

According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Capt. Rob Yoos, the monitoring officer noticed the suspect needed medical attention and called in hospital staff. During the medical assessment, an altercation occurred, leading the officer to discharge their firearm.

The suspect was struck by gunfire, treated immediately by hospital staff, and remains in stable condition under police custody. The officer involved was not injured.

Hospital Operating Safely

Ventura County sheriff’s officials quickly reassured the community that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

In an official statement, Los Robles Regional Medical Center confirmed the safety of its environment:

“All patients, colleagues and visitors are safe, and our hospital is operating as normal.”

Shocked Neighborhood

The incident has stunned neighbors on Clover Street, who described the couple as friendly and family-oriented. Next-door neighbor Jacqueline Gropp expressed heartbreak over the tragedy, noting that the couple had recently celebrated the birth of a granddaughter. Neighbors also confirmed that children reside at the home, where the family moved about four years ago.

Ongoing Investigations

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is spearheading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting, alongside the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office. The Simi Valley Police Department will simultaneously conduct its own internal review of the initial domestic assault.
