Houston, Texas — A 39-year-old mother of two is in critical condition after a hit-and-run crash in north Harris County left her with catastrophic injuries, including a rare condition known as internal decapitation. Her family is now urgently asking for the public’s help to identify the driver who fled the scene.
The crash happened on March 12 near FM 1960 and Cypress Station Road, where Lolita Moore had just left a grocery store moments before the incident.
“She fell in the roadway and couldn’t get back up before a vehicle hit her,” family members said.
Family says fall led to tragic moment
According to relatives, Moore tripped while walking and was unable to recover in time to avoid the oncoming vehicle.
Her sister, Sermon Swafford, described the moment as sudden and devastating.
“When she fell, she couldn’t get up like it was just a normal fall,” Swafford said.
Within seconds, a vehicle struck Moore as she lay in the roadway.
Driver fled scene after impact
Authorities say the driver did not stop after hitting Moore, leaving her seriously injured.
The family has expressed disbelief that someone could leave after such a severe crash.
“What was going through your head? I’m sure you had blood all over your vehicle,” Swafford said.
Investigators believe the suspect vehicle may be a black Honda CR-V, though no arrests have been made so far.
Victim suffered life-threatening injuries
Moore was rushed to the hospital with multiple broken bones, brain bleeding, and severe trauma.
Doctors informed the family that she suffered internal decapitation, a rare and often fatal injury where the skull becomes separated from the spine internally.
“Her head was not connected to her body… that’s how severe the accident was,” her sister said.
Despite the severity of her injuries, Moore has survived and remains in critical condition.
Family calls her survival a miracle
Loved ones say Moore is continuing to fight for her life, describing her survival so far as nothing short of extraordinary.
“God is a miracle worker… he worked a miracle for her,” Swafford said.
Her condition remains serious as doctors continue treatment.
Two daughters wait for their mother’s recovery
Moore’s family says the emotional toll has been overwhelming, especially for her children.
She is the mother of two daughters, who are now waiting and hoping for her recovery.
“For someone to hit a human being and just drive off… that person has a family too,” a relative said.
Family members say their lives have been turned upside down since the crash.
