CHAMBLEE, GA – A devastating fire tore through an apartment complex in Chamblee on Mother’s Day, leaving dozens of families without a home after the building’s roof partially collapsed.
Emergency Response at Windsor Parkview
The blaze broke out on Sunday, May 10, at the Windsor Parkview Apartments. According to fire officials, the flames spread rapidly across the roof of the complex. Witness footage captured thick clouds of black smoke and the sound of a loud explosion coming from the top of the building before fire crews could arrive.
Firefighters battled the intense heat as a significant portion of the roof eventually caved in due to the structural damage.
72 People Displaced
While no injuries were reported, the impact on residents has been severe. Captain Jaeson Daniels confirmed that 72 people have been displaced by the fire. The Red Cross is currently on-site providing emergency assistance, including food and temporary housing, to those affected.
One resident, Gerard Watley, described the chaotic scene: “There was a whole bunch of black smoke everywhere. It was like an emergency immediately… I’ve never seen anything like this.”
Investigation into the Cause
While the exact cause of the fire is still under official investigation, initial reports from fire officials suggest that an air conditioning unit on the roof may have been the starting point of the blaze.
Authorities remain on the scene to secure the area and conduct a full investigation into the incident.
