New York City, New York — Another violent stretch in New York City has left teenagers dead and critically injured after two separate shootings unfolded less than 24 hours apart in the Bronx and Brooklyn.
Authorities say the incidents are the latest in a disturbing series of violent crimes involving the city’s youth in recent weeks.
15-Year-Old Shot in the Head in the Bronx
The latest shooting happened Monday afternoon in the Eastchester section of the Bronx, near the NYCHA Boston Secor Houses.
According to police, the 15-year-old victim was shot in the head around 2:50 p.m. behind the housing complex.
Emergency responders rushed the teenager to Jacobi Hospital, where he was listed in critical but stable condition, officials said.
Investigators have not revealed what led up to the shooting, and authorities have not announced any arrests.
Residents in the area were left shaken as police flooded the housing complex searching for clues and potential witnesses.
Brooklyn Teen Killed Just One Day Earlier
Roughly 24 hours before the Bronx shooting, another deadly incident unfolded in Brownsville, Brooklyn.
Police said Quahmir Cruz, 18, was shot in the chest in front of the NYCHA Van Dyke Houses, where he reportedly lived.
Cruz was transported to Brookdale Hospital, but doctors were unable to save him.
Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or released a motive behind the fatal shooting.
The close timing of the two incidents has intensified concerns about ongoing violence affecting young people across New York City neighborhoods.
String of Violent Crimes Involving Teens
The latest shootings are part of what authorities describe as a troubling pattern of violent crimes targeting teenagers throughout the city.
In recent weeks, multiple young victims have either been killed or seriously injured in separate violent incidents.
A 16-year-old boy, Marquise Byfield, was shot and killed inside a Brooklyn bodega on April 24.
Just days later, Jonathan Melo, 17, was fatally stabbed in the back outside a Bronx apartment building on April 29. Police identified the alleged attacker as Andrew Tollinche.
Another teenager, Jaden Pierre, 15, was shot and killed during what authorities described as a gang-fueled brawl at a Queens park on April 16.
Police later arrested Zahir Davis, 18, in connection with Pierre’s death.
No Arrests in Latest Shootings
As of Monday evening, investigators said no suspects were in custody in connection with either the Bronx or Brooklyn shootings.
Police continue to investigate both incidents separately while attempting to determine possible motives.
