Philadelphia Region Faces Dangerous Triple-Digit Heat Next Week

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Weather officials are tracking a dramatic shift in the local forecast, warning Philadelphia area residents to prepare for a dangerous heat wave that could push feels-like temperatures up to 110 degrees next week.

The Weekend Outlook: Rain Followed by Relief

Before the extreme heat arrives, the region will see some wet weather. A steadier rain is set to develop early Saturday. Local forecasters note that the majority of the rainfall will be concentrated south of the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Interstate 195 in New Jersey.

Rain should taper off by Saturday afternoon, keeping temperatures comfortable in the upper 70s. Sunday brings a refreshing break with a mix of sun, clouds, and highs in the mid-80s.

The Heat Builds Early Next Week

The quiet weather won’t last long as a massive ridge of high pressure begins to build over the Northeast:

  • Monday: Mostly sunny skies with temperatures climbing near 90 degrees.
  • Tuesday: Hot and increasingly humid with highs reaching the lower 90s.

Dangerous Heat Threat: Wednesday and Thursday

The peak of the weather system hits mid-week, bringing potentially hazardous conditions to the Delaware Valley.

On Wednesday and Thursday, actual high temperatures will soar into the upper 90s, with several spots expected to touch 100 degrees. When combined with intense humidity, heat index values (feels-like temperatures) could skyrocket to between 105 and 110 degrees. Both days are expected to remain dry and mostly sunny.

Precautions and Safety

With hazardous heat on the horizon, local authorities advise residents to monitor vulnerable individuals, including the elderly and pets. Plans for outdoor activities next week should be limited during peak heating hours.
