ISLAND PARK, NY — A sense of shock and fear has gripped Nassau County as police investigate two separate, deadly stabbings that claimed the lives of two women within hours of each other. While a suspect is in custody, authorities have remained notably “tight-lipped” about the identity of the man or his potential connection to the victims.
The investigation spans multiple locations, linking a quiet apartment complex in Valley Stream to a popular fast-food restaurant in Island Park.
The First Discovery: Valley Stream Apartment
The grim series of events began to unfold on Friday afternoon when the Nassau Medical Examiner arrived at an apartment building at 90 West Mineola Ave. in Valley Stream. Inside, an unidentified woman was found stabbed to death.
Investigators believe this attack actually occurred on Thursday night. However, the discovery was not made until police began investigating a second, equally horrific attack miles away. Neighbors in the quiet community expressed disbelief as forensic teams processed the scene.
“It’s scary, it’s very scary,” said Angela Bleuler, a lifelong Valley Stream resident. “I’ve lived here my whole life and this is too close to home.”
The Second Attack: Island Park Wendy’s
Hours after the estimated time of the first killing, violence struck again—this time at a Wendy’s on Austin Blvd. in Island Park.
A female employee was reportedly taking out the restaurant’s trash when she was ambushed and fatally stabbed. Her identity has not yet been released, but the randomness and brutality of the daytime attack at a busy eatery have left the community reeling.
One local resident told NBC New York she saw news of the Wendy’s attack on social media, never imagining it was tied to the police activity in her own Valley Stream neighborhood. “I had no idea it was tied to anything here,” she said.
The Arrest in Lynbrook
Nassau Police eventually tracked the suspect to a 7-Eleven store on Atlantic Ave. in Lynbrook. He was apprehended without further incident and remains in custody. Despite the arrest, police have declined to release the man’s name or a possible motive, leaving residents to wonder if these were targeted attacks or random acts of violence.
Neighbor Rumeal Richards echoed the sentiments of many: “The world is a crazy place… you can’t really be too sure of the people that are directly in front of you sometimes.”
Silence from Officials
As of Friday evening, both the Nassau County Police Department and County Executive Bruce Blakeman have declined to comment on-camera. Authorities have suggested that a full press conference may be held on Saturday to provide more clarity.
The names of the victims are being withheld pending family notification.
