Conroe, Texas — A Texas man is facing murder charges after authorities say he shot and killed his elderly father, reported the death to emergency dispatchers and then used the victim’s credit cards without authorization.
The case has shocked residents in Montgomery County, where the victim was known as a respected member of the local community.
Son Called 911 to Report Father’s Death
According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, 38-year-old Justin Blount called 911 at approximately 8 a.m. Monday to report that he had found his father dead inside a home on Trails End Road in Conroe.
Responding deputies arrived at the residence and discovered 81-year-old James Raymond Blount suffering from what authorities described as “an apparent gunshot wound.”
Emergency responders pronounced the elderly man dead at the scene.
Initially, investigators treated the incident as a suspicious death while gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.
Investigation Quickly Focused on Son
As detectives examined the circumstances surrounding the death, investigators reportedly uncovered evidence suggesting unauthorized financial activity involving the victim’s accounts.
Authorities said Justin Blount had allegedly been using his father’s credit cards without permission.
According to the sheriff’s office, the investigation soon revealed additional evidence that raised even more serious concerns.
“Evidence indicated that he not only used the victim’s financial resources, but is also responsible for his murder.”
While investigators have not publicly disclosed the specific evidence linking Justin Blount to the killing, authorities say detectives developed sufficient probable cause to arrest him.
Murder and Financial Abuse Charges Filed
Following the investigation, Justin Blount was charged with murder and credit or debit card abuse against an elderly individual.
Jail records show he was booked into the Montgomery County Jail. Authorities have not publicly discussed a possible motive for the alleged crime.
Investigators also have not released details regarding how long the alleged unauthorized credit card use occurred before or after the victim’s death.
The case remains under active investigation as detectives continue reviewing evidence.
Victim Remembered as Respected Community Member
Friends and neighbors described James Blount — often known simply as “Mr. Jim” — as a generous and well-respected man who was passionate about horses and deeply involved in his community.
Many expressed shock after learning of the allegations surrounding his death.
Longtime friend Linda Young spoke emotionally about the loss.
“This is truly a remarkable man that we lost,” Young told a local media outlet.
She continued:
“Jim was one of the nicest people you would ever meet. He would give you the shirt off his back. To have this kind of insanity done to him is just shocking.”
Her comments reflected the grief being felt throughout the community as residents struggle to understand the circumstances of the case.
Investigation Continues
Authorities have not released additional details regarding the evidence collected during the investigation.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office says detectives continue working to determine all circumstances surrounding James Blount’s death.
Meanwhile, family members, friends and community members are remembering a man they describe as kind, generous and always willing to help others.
The case is expected to move through the court system in the coming months as prosecutors pursue the charges against Justin Blount.
