Tornado Devastates Mineral Wells Injuries Reported as Severe Storm Outbreak Ravages the South

MINERAL WELLS, TX — A violent tornado tore through Mineral Wells Tuesday evening, leaving a trail of destruction, flattening homes, and injuring several residents. The strike marks the sixth consecutive day of a relentless severe weather outbreak that has terrorized the Midwest and is now carving a path of chaos through the Southern United States.

The tornado touched down around 5 p.m. BST, approximately 80 miles west of Dallas. Mineral Wells Fire Chief Ryan Dunn confirmed that while there are currently no reported deaths or missing persons, the physical toll on the community is significant.

Injuries and Emergency Response

Emergency crews worked through the evening to treat victims among the wreckage.

  • Hospitalizations: Two individuals were transported to local hospitals with undisclosed injuries.
  • On-Scene Treatment: Several others were treated for minor injuries by first responders.
  • Curfew Imposed: A 10 p.m. curfew was enacted Tuesday night to keep residents away from the “industrial area” and heavily damaged residential zones for their own safety.

Mineral Wells High School has been designated as a reunification center, with the Red Cross on-site to assist displaced families. “There is a lot of hope out there,” said Police Chief Tim Denison. “We’ve had an outpouring of support from the community.”

Grapefruit-Sized Hail Pummels Springfield, Missouri

While North Texas faced tornadoes, Springfield, Missouri, dealt with a “insane” barrage of giant hail. Stones ranging from tennis ball to grapefruit size smashed windshields, downed power poles, and caused significant damage to local landmarks.

The Dickerson Park Zoo suffered a tragic loss when a resident emu was killed by the falling ice; a rhea was also injured. The zoo will remain closed Wednesday as staff assess the extensive damage to the facility. At the Springfield-Branson National Airport, crews were seen scrambling to cover battered vehicles with tarps as wind-driven hail lashed the tarmac.

A Week of Terror: State-by-State Damage

Forecast: Relief is on the Way

A Level 3 of 5 risk remains in place through early Wednesday for parts of Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Millions remain under threat of damaging winds and isolated tornadoes as the system pushes East.

However, meteorologists say a cold front will finally reach the East Coast on Wednesday. This move is expected to usher in a cooler, calmer weather pattern for much of the U.S. and provide much-needed “beneficial rain” to Southern states currently facing extreme drought conditions.
