Two Arrested After Dismembered Body Found In Illinois Lake

MATTOON, IL – Illinois State Police (ISP) have arrested two suspects in connection with the human remains found floating in Lake Mattoon earlier this week.

The Grisly Discovery

The investigation began on Sunday afternoon, June 28, when boaters on Lake Mattoon in Cumberland County spotted what they initially believed were dead fish. Upon closer inspection, they realized it was a human arm and immediately called 911. The group used an oar to keep the remains from drifting away until law enforcement arrived.

Authorities later identified the victim as 38-year-old Dalewayne Turner of Plainfield. To establish his identity, investigators publicly released photos of distinctive tattoos on the floating arm, including a skeleton holding a Green Bay Packers helmet. Additional remains were uncovered during subsequent searches of the lake.

Suspects Apprehended and Charged

Following an intensive investigation, ISP executed a search warrant at a residence on the 2400 block of Ruth Fitzgerald Drive in Plainfield. Evidence was recovered from the home, which was taped off by law enforcement.

Two individuals were taken into custody and face severe charges:

  • James Adams (26): Charged with concealment of a homicide and dismembering a human body.
  • Robin Turner (62): Charged with concealment of a homicide and dismembering a human body.

Ongoing Investigation

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department initially responded to the scene before requesting the assistance of the Illinois State Police to lead the homicide investigation.

Both suspects remain in police custody, and officials confirm that additional charges are expected to be filed as the investigation progresses.
