ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – Two Atlantic City police officers were hospitalized and a suspect was killed Tuesday afternoon following a shootout during a search warrant execution.
Gunfire Erupts on North Florida Avenue
The shooting occurred around 3:00 p.m. along the 100 block of North Florida Avenue. According to officials, the violence broke out as officers were actively executing a search warrant at the scene.
During the confrontation, gunfire was exchanged, striking two of the responding officers and the suspect.
Casualties and Injuries
The suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Both wounded officers were immediately rushed to area hospitals. Authorities confirmed the following details regarding their conditions:
- First Officer: Sustained critical, life-threatening injuries.
- Second Officer: Sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Atlantic City Police assured residents that the scene has been secured and there is currently no active threat to the public.
Official Responses and Investigation
Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small released a statement expressing gratitude for the officers’ courage, stating, “My thoughts and prayers are with the two Atlantic City police officers who were wounded this afternoon, as well as their families.”
Because the incident involved police use of deadly force, the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability has taken over the ongoing investigation.
