Bronx, New York — Two deadly attacks unfolded within minutes of each other in the Bronx on Sunday night, leaving two men dead in separate incidents that police are still working to solve.
Authorities say a man was fatally shot near Yankee Stadium before another victim was stabbed to death across town only moments later, sparking renewed concerns about violence across the borough.
Man Fatally Shot Near Yankee Stadium
Police identified the shooting victim as 34-year-old Javan Jones, who was gunned down around 9:35 p.m. outside an apartment building on East 161st Street near Courtlandt Avenue in the Concourse Village neighborhood.
The location sits less than a mile from Yankee Stadium, an area that often sees heavy foot traffic and activity during the evening hours.
Authorities said Jones suffered a gunshot wound to the back and was rushed to Lincoln Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
Investigators have not yet determined a motive for the shooting, and no arrests had been announced as of Monday afternoon.
Residents Shocked by Sudden Violence
Jones reportedly lived in NYCHA’s Carver Houses in East Harlem, though locals said he was known to spend time in the area where he was killed.
A deli worker who said he saw Jones earlier that same day expressed shock over the sudden violence.
“I saw him yesterday….about 12 [noon], 1 p.m.,” the worker said.
“Man, that’s crazy. That was unexpected.”
Residents in the neighborhood say the violence has become increasingly worrying, especially as warmer weather approaches.
A nearby resident voiced concerns about tensions rising in the community.
“Summer time is coming, and it’s going to get hot over here,” the 49-year-old woman said. “Nobody knows how to communicate, everything is about disrespect.”
Another Deadly Attack Unfolds Minutes Later
Only minutes after the shooting near Yankee Stadium, police responded to another violent scene on the opposite side of the Bronx.
Authorities said a 29-year-old man, whose identity has not yet been publicly released, was stabbed repeatedly around 9:40 p.m. near West Farms Road and Rodman Place in the West Farms section of the borough.
Emergency crews transported the victim to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Police have not revealed what led to the stabbing, and investigators say the motive remains under investigation.

As of Monday afternoon, no arrests had been made in connection with the killing.
Investigations Ongoing in Both Cases
NYPD detectives continue investigating both incidents separately as authorities work to determine whether any witnesses or surveillance footage may help identify suspects.
Officials have not indicated whether the two deadly attacks are connected, though both occurred within minutes of each other on opposite sides of the Bronx.
The violence has left residents shaken and once again raised concerns about public safety as the city enters the summer months, a period when violent crime often increases.
Community members are hoping investigators can quickly make arrests and provide answers to grieving families affected by the back-to-back tragedies.
Police are asking anyone with information related to either incident to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigations.
