NEWARK, DE – Two fatal motorcycle accidents occurred just miles apart on Tuesday evening, leaving a local community in mourning and authorities searching for answers.
Fatal Collision Near Christiana Hospital
The second of the two deadly incidents took place shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Churchmans Road. According to Newark Police, a motorcycle and an SUV collided near the entrance to Christiana Hospital.
The impact threw the rider from the motorcycle, who then became trapped beneath a vehicle. Emergency responders pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.
Earlier Crash On Christiana Road
Just 90 minutes prior to the Churchmans Road incident, another fatal crash was reported only three miles away. Around 6:00 p.m., a motorcyclist was killed after colliding with another vehicle in the 1000 block of Christiana Road.
Details regarding the cause of this initial crash have not yet been released by investigators.
Investigations Underway
Newark authorities are currently investigating both incidents to determine if speed, weather, or other factors played a role. It has not been confirmed if the two crashes are related beyond their close proximity and timing.
Police are urging any witnesses who may have seen either collision to come forward as they work to piece together the events of Tuesday night.
