Wife Arrested Nine Months After Husband Found Shot Dead in Running Vehicle, Authorities Say

NEW CANEY, TEXAS — Nearly nine months after a man was discovered shot to death inside a running vehicle parked along a roadside, authorities have arrested his wife in connection with the killing.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday that 31-year-old Breyanai Moore has been arrested and charged in the murder of her husband, 33-year-old Lonnie Moore.

Husband Found Dead in Running Vehicle

Lonnie Moore was found dead at approximately 9 a.m. on June 15, 2025, in the 23900 block of Northcrest Trail in New Caney.

According to investigators, deputies located Moore inside a vehicle that was still running and parked on the side of the road. At the time, authorities indicated the scene initially appeared consistent with a possible suicide.

However, officials later stated that further investigation uncovered evidence suggesting foul play.

Months-Long Investigation Shifts Focus

Through continued forensic review and digital analysis, investigators said evidence ultimately led them to Breyanai Moore.

Court documents reveal that the couple shared a five-year-old daughter but had been separated for approximately two years at the time of the shooting.

Detectives said Breyanai Moore told them she had been at home all night with their daughter. She also reportedly told investigators that she had responded to a text from Lonnie that morning, informing him she planned to file for divorce.

Surveillance Footage and Phone Records

Investigators said neighborhood Flock camera footage contradicted her account.

According to court documents:

  • Cameras captured a woman resembling Breyanai Moore standing near the entrance of Lonnie’s neighborhood earlier that morning.
  • Phone records showed repeated calls between Lonnie Moore and a prepaid “burner” phone number on the morning of his death.
  • That prepaid phone was allegedly purchased by a friend of Breyanai Moore.

Authorities further stated that the friend later told investigators Breyanai admitted to using the phone to contact Lonnie and lure him into picking her up.

Alleged Confession to Friend

Court records allege that Breyanai Moore told the friend she entered Lonnie’s vehicle and sat in the back seat behind him.

Investigators say she allegedly admitted to shooting him when he attempted to grab something from her.

Authorities have not publicly released additional details about the firearm involved or the precise sequence of events inside the vehicle.

Arrest and Charges

Breyanai Moore was taken into custody Thursday. Officials have not yet released details regarding bond or her next court appearance.

The case is now moving forward through the Montgomery County court system.

Investigation and Community Impact

What initially appeared to be a possible suicide has evolved into a homicide investigation that spanned months and relied heavily on digital evidence, surveillance footage, and witness statements.

Authorities have not released further comment regarding potential motive beyond details included in court filings.

Conclusion

The arrest of Breyanai Moore marks a significant development in the investigation into the death of Lonnie Moore in New Caney.

As the case proceeds, prosecutors will present evidence gathered during the months-long inquiry, including surveillance video and phone records, in court.
