HARLEM, NY – A tragic accident in Harlem on Thursday left a 13-year-old boy dead and a 14-year-old boy injured after their motor scooter collided head-on with an SUV.
The Collision at West 112th Street
According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), the incident occurred as the two teenagers were riding a motor scooter westbound on West 112th Street.
At the same time, a 63-year-old man driving a 2024 Chevy Tahoe was making a left turn onto West 112th Street from Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard. The scooter and the SUV collided head-on in the intersection.
Casualties and Medical Response
Emergency responders rushed both teenagers to Harlem Hospital.
- The 13-year-old boy, who sustained a severe head injury, was tragically pronounced dead at the hospital.
- The 14-year-old passenger suffered a leg injury and is currently listed in stable condition.
The identity of the deceased teenager has not been publicly released pending family notification.
Investigation Ongoing
The 63-year-old driver of the Chevy Tahoe remained at the scene following the crash and cooperated with arriving officers.
Authorities confirmed that no charges have been filed at this stage. The NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad is currently leading the ongoing investigation into the exact cause of the crash.
