BLUE MOUNDS, WI – Thousands of beagles are experiencing life outside of a cage for the first time after being freed from Ridglan Farms, a prominent dog breeding and research facility in Wisconsin.

Last month, a massive rescue operation led by Big Dog Ranch Rescue and the Center for a Humane Economy resulted in the purchase and release of 1,500 beagles. These dogs, many of whom had never touched grass or seen sunlight, are now being placed in “forever homes” across the country.
Videos of the rescues have recently taken social media by storm. Viral clips show the beagles experiencing “firsts”—from running through open fields to a heartwarming video of a dog’s first trip to the beach.
The Controversy At Ridglan Farms
Ridglan Farms has long been a focal point for animal rights activists. The facility breeds beagles specifically for laboratory testing due to the breed’s docile and friendly nature. While the company maintains that their research is vital for vaccines and treatments for rabies, parvovirus, and arthritis, they have faced years of intense scrutiny.
