Concert Tragedy School Secretary Dies After Freak Crowd-Surfing Accident at Missouri Music Festival

Maryland Heights, Missouri — A Missouri woman has died after suffering severe head injuries during a rock festival when she was accidentally kicked in the head by a crowd surfer while watching a live performance.

The tragic incident happened during the annual Pointfest music festival in Maryland Heights, leaving family, friends and the local community devastated over the sudden loss of 28-year-old Danielle Uskiwich.

Concert Injury Initially Seemed Minor

According to her family, Uskiwich was attending Pointfest on May 16 when another concertgoer crowd surfing during Sleep Theory’s performance accidentally struck her in the head.

At first, the injury did not appear serious, and she reportedly continued on after the incident without realizing the damage that had been done.

However, just days later, her condition dramatically worsened.

After suffering from severe headaches, Uskiwich was hospitalized, where doctors discovered she had developed a brain bleed believed to be connected to the concert injury.

Doctors Perform Emergency Surgery

During her hospitalization, Uskiwich’s condition became critical.

Doctors said she suffered two strokes and required emergency surgery as medical teams worked to save her life.

According to her family, surgeons removed six pints of blood and several blood clots during the procedure.

The family also revealed that doctors discovered an unidentified “underlying condition” during surgery that may never have been found if the brain bleed had not occurred.

Following the operation on May 22, Uskiwich was placed into a medically induced coma to reduce swelling and allow her body time to recover.

Family Announces Heartbreaking Death

Ten days after the concert accident, Uskiwich died from her injuries on Tuesday.

Her grieving relatives shared the devastating update publicly the following day.

“It is with absolutely shattered hearts that we share that our beautiful Danielle passed away on May 26th at 1:54 PM,” her cousins wrote on GoFundMe.

Uskiwich worked as an attendance secretary at St. Charles High School, located just a few miles from the concert venue.

Friends and loved ones described her as someone whose personality and kindness deeply impacted everyone around her.

Final Selfless Decision Saves Others

Even in the midst of tragedy, Uskiwich’s family made the decision to honor her through organ donation.

“Even through unimaginable grief, Danielle’s immediate family made the incredibly selfless decision to honor her giving spirit through organ donation so that others may have a second chance at life,” her family wrote.

Before the donation procedure, hospital staff, friends and family members participated in a moving “honor walk” through the hospital as Uskiwich was transported for organ donation.

The emotional tribute highlighted the profound impact she had on those around her.

Remembered for Her Love of Music and Life

Family members said Uskiwich had recently celebrated her engagement to her fiancé, Jason, in August 2025, and the couple had planned to marry next April.

In one emotional message shared during her hospitalization, Jason wrote:

“We have a long road ahead of us, but we’re going to get there! There’s no one tougher in the would to get through this,” he wrote on May 23. “I love you so many!! You have 11 months to get ready for the aisle, baybos!”

Loved ones also remembered Uskiwich as a passionate St. Louis Blues fan, especially devoted to player TJ Oshie, as well as someone who loved traveling and live music.

“Danielle was loved by so many. She had the kindest heart, a beautiful smile, and a spirit that could light up any room, and she was the kind of person people naturally gravitated toward because of her warmth, humor, and the way she made others feel seen and loved,” her family wrote.
