19-Year-Old LSU Student From Texas Dies in Tragic Louisiana Crash, Police Say

Louisiana — A tragic highway crash in Louisiana has claimed the life of a 19-year-old college student from Ellis County who had recently completed her first year at Louisiana State University.

Authorities confirmed that the deadly collision occurred Friday afternoon along Louisiana Highway 190 near Jennings Road, leaving family members, classmates and community supporters devastated by the sudden loss.

Fatal Crash Happened on Louisiana Highway 190

According to Louisiana State Police, troopers responded to the scene shortly after 3 p.m. on Friday following reports of a serious two-vehicle crash.

Investigators said a 2005 Kenworth Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) was traveling westbound on LA-190 and began slowing down as it approached a crossover near Jennings Road.

At the same time, a 2025 Kia K4 was also traveling westbound behind the commercial vehicle.

For reasons that remain under investigation, authorities said the Kia failed to slow down and crashed into the rear of the commercial truck.

The impact of the collision caused catastrophic injuries to the young passenger inside the Kia.

LSU Student Pronounced Dead at Scene

Officials identified the victim as 19-year-old Cynthia Hodge, an Ellis County native who had recently completed her freshman year at Louisiana State University.

State police said Hodge was not properly restrained inside the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Authorities confirmed she suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
