SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA – A male driver tragically lost his life Thursday evening following a multi-vehicle collision that caused his car to overturn on southbound Highway 101 near San Francisco International Airport.
The Fatal Collision
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), dispatchers received a 911 call just before 7:00 p.m. reporting a major crash on southbound Highway 101, just south of the SFO on-ramp.
Investigators determined that a white Toyota Camry collided with another vehicle, causing the Camry to lose control and flip over.
Emergency Response and Findings
First responders arrived at the scene to find the male driver of the Toyota Camry on the roadway suffering from severe, life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to a local hospital, where doctors later pronounced him dead.
CHP officials confirmed a critical detail from their initial assessment: the driver of the Toyota was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
Investigation and Traffic Impact
The driver of the second vehicle involved remained on the scene and is cooperating with law enforcement. The crash caused significant traffic backups near the airport as emergency crews cleared the wreckage and investigators documented the scene.
The exact cause of the initial collision remains under active investigation by the CHP.
