PETALUMA, CA – A Sonoma County cookbook author and Bay Area-trained baker has launched a unique culinary tribute to celebrate America’s 250th birthday this year.
The “Spirits of ’76” Collection
Kim Laidlaw, a well-known culinary figure in Petaluma, has crafted a brand-new signature drink for all 50 states. The entire collection of recipes is featured in her newly released cocktail book, titled “Spirits Of ’76.”
The book serves as a festive toast to the nation’s landmark Semiquincentennial anniversary, blending local flavors with American history.
Classic Meets Contemporary
Laidlaw’s book takes a dual approach to celebrating each state’s unique drinking culture:
- The Signature Drink: A completely new, custom-crafted recipe tailored to modern palates.
- The State Classic: A curated selection of traditional, historic cocktails deeply rooted in each state’s heritage.
Local Roots
Laidlaw, who honed her skills as a baker and writer in the San Francisco Bay Area, designed the recipes to be accessible for home bartenders while capturing the regional identity of every corner of the country.
The book is hitting shelves just in time for local residents looking to mix up unique drinks for their weekend celebrations.
