HARTFORD, CT – An extreme heat warning remains in effect through Saturday evening as Connecticut grapples with a historic five-day heat wave that has pushed feels-like temperatures into the triple digits.
Dangerous Heat Index on Saturday
Saturday marks the fifth consecutive day of temperatures soaring above 90 degrees across the state, making this a record-breaking heat event for Connecticut. Excessive humidity is driving the heat index—or “feels-like” temperature—to dangerous levels between 100 and 105 degrees.
This marks Connecticut’s second official heat wave of the year, following a four-day stretch of extreme temperatures back in May.
Relief Arrives Sunday
Weather officials confirm that relief is finally on the way. A shifting weather pattern will bring scattered storms late Saturday, helping to break the stagnant dome of heat.
By Sunday morning, residents can expect:
- Significantly lower humidity levels
- More comfortable, pleasant outdoor conditions
- A return to seasonal temperature averages
Cooler Outlook for Next Week
The cooler trend is expected to hold steady into the upcoming week. Forecasters project daytime highs will remain well below the 90-degree mark, though a return of unsettled weather brings a high likelihood of scattered showers on Monday and Tuesday.
Health officials continue to urge residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours, and check on vulnerable neighbors until the warning expires Saturday evening.
