EAST MCKEESPORT, PA – A Monroeville man is facing multiple criminal charges, including homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, nearly one year after a fatal two-vehicle crash in East McKeesport.
The Fatal Collision
The incident occurred last July at the intersection of 5th Avenue and Penn Avenue. Allegheny County Police investigators stated that a vehicle driven by 62-year-old Aaron Bertoluzzi of Monroeville collided with another vehicle.
The victim, 45-year-old Brian Jackson of Swissvale, was rushed to a local hospital but tragically died from his injuries several hours later.
High Speed and Blood Alcohol Levels
According to court paperwork released by the Allegheny County Police Homicide and Collision Reconstruction Units, Bertoluzzi’s blood alcohol content (BAC) was 0.176% following the crash—more than twice the legal limit.
Forensic data retrieved from his vehicle also revealed he was speeding, traveling at approximately 48 mph in a 35 mph zone. During a hospital interview on the night of the crash, Bertoluzzi allegedly admitted to police that he had been drinking at home following a dispute between his ex-wife and his girlfriend before getting behind the wheel.
Charges and Status
Bertoluzzi is now facing several serious charges, including:
- Homicide by vehicle while DUI
- Involuntary manslaughter
- Driving under the influence (DUI)
- Various traffic violations
Court records indicate that Bertoluzzi has not yet been taken into custody and is currently awaiting his preliminary hearing.
