Wayne County man accused of breaking into home, shooting at police officer pleads no contest

WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. — A Highland Park man whose 2024 crime spree involved a home invasion, a high-speed collision with a patrol car, and shots fired at a police officer has officially entered a plea in Wayne County court.

Brendan Tyrell Wilson, 24, pleaded no contest on Tuesday, April 7, to a string of violent felonies stemming from the October 2024 incident.

The Night of the Incident

According to court records and police reports, the chaos began on Oct. 12, 2024. Wilson allegedly broke into a residence and was seen exiting the home while armed with an AK-style rifle.

As law enforcement arrived on the scene, Wilson attempted to flee. During the pursuit, he:

  • Crashed his vehicle directly into a police cruiser.
  • Opened fire with his weapon toward an officer.
  • Was eventually apprehended and taken into custody following the confrontation.

The Legal Breakdown

Wilson was facing a mountain of charges, but a plea agreement has narrowed the scope of the case. He pleaded no contest to the following:

  • Assault with intent to murder
  • Assault with a dangerous weapon
  • Third-degree fleeing and eluding
  • Possession of a firearm by a prohibited person
  • Four counts of felony firearm

In exchange for his plea, prosecutors will dismiss several lesser charges at the time of sentencing, including malicious destruction of police property, malicious destruction of a building, and driving with a suspended license.

What’s Next?

A “no contest” plea is treated the same as a guilty plea for sentencing purposes in Michigan. Wilson remains in custody as he awaits his final court appearance.

Sentencing Date: May 19, 2026 Time: 9:00 a.m.
