South Philadelphia Police Investigate String of Violent Overnight Robberies Across Multiple Blocks

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Police are investigating a troubling series of violent robberies that occurred within blocks of each other in South Philadelphia over the past several weeks. Authorities say five separate incidents, many involving groups of three suspects, took place late at night or in the early morning hours, leaving victims injured and residents on edge.

The first reported robbery happened around 1:45 a.m. on Jan. 17 along the 900 block of Washington Avenue. According to police, three young men pushed a victim off an electric bicycle before fleeing with the bike. The victim suffered pain to his hand and knee but did not require hospitalization.

A second attack occurred just after midnight on Feb. 3 on the 1100 block of Carpenter Street. Police said three men punched and kicked the victim, causing what may have been a concussion. The suspects reportedly stole cash before fleeing the scene. Surveillance footage from the area captured three masked individuals walking along Carpenter Street around midnight on Feb. 2, just before the robbery occurred.

Later that same night, around 11:05 p.m., another robbery was reported on the 1100 block of South 10th Street. Investigators say three men assaulted a victim by punching and kicking them before stealing both money and an electric bicycle.

Authorities are also looking into a fourth robbery that happened on Feb. 11 around 12:03 a.m. on the 1100 block of Annin Street. In that case, three suspects allegedly stole a wallet containing cash and credit cards. Police said one suspect was riding a scooter and another displayed a handgun during the confrontation.

The most recent robbery occurred shortly after midnight on Feb. 12 near the intersection of 10th and Reed streets. Officials said three men pushed a victim off a bicycle, then punched and kicked the individual until they lost consciousness. The victim suffered a possible concussion, and the suspects took a wallet and cash before escaping.

Residents say the pattern of violence has raised serious concerns in the neighborhood. Some community members described feeling uneasy about walking outside at night, especially those who regularly take late-night strolls with pets or return home after work.

Police have not confirmed whether all five robberies are connected, but the similarities in timing, location, and suspect descriptions suggest a possible link. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage and speaking with witnesses in hopes of identifying those responsible.

Anyone with information about these incidents is urged to contact South Detectives at 215-686-3013 or call 911. Authorities say community cooperation will be critical in helping bring an end to the recent string of robberies.
