76-Year-Old Woman Hospitalized After Violent Daytime Robbery in East Oakland

Oakland, California – A 76-year-old woman was hospitalized after being violently pushed to the ground during a daytime robbery in East Oakland on Thursday, authorities confirmed. The suspect allegedly stole jewelry and cash before fleeing the scene on foot.

Police said the woman remains in stable condition and is recovering from injuries sustained during the attack.

Robbery Occurred Near Bond Street

The robbery took place around 10:55 a.m. in the 4500 block of Bond Street, not far from High Street in East Oakland. According to preliminary reports, the elderly woman had been walking home from a shopping trip when she was approached from behind by an unidentified man.

Authorities said the suspect suddenly shoved the woman to the pavement, causing her to strike her head and suffer cuts to her hands. Investigators believe the force of the push led to bruising and lacerations that required medical attention.

After knocking her to the ground, the suspect allegedly removed a gold bracelet from her wrist and took cash from one of her pockets before running away.

Victim Recovering in Stable Condition

Emergency responders transported the woman to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials confirmed Friday that she is in stable condition and recovering.

The emotional impact of the incident has not been disclosed, but authorities described the attack as deeply concerning due to the victim’s age and the violent nature of the crime.

No detailed description of the suspect has been released at this time. Police said the investigation remains active as detectives work to gather additional evidence.

Second Violent Robbery Targeting Senior in Two Days

Thursday’s incident marks the second violent robbery involving an older woman in Oakland within a two-day span.

On Wednesday at approximately 2:25 p.m., a 73-year-old woman was reportedly struck on the head with a pistol during a robbery in the 6200 block of Antioch Street in the Montclair district. In that case, the suspect stole the victim’s purse. Unlike Thursday’s victim, the 73-year-old woman was not hospitalized.

Authorities have stated that the two robberies are not believed to be connected.

Investigators are urging anyone with information about the Bond Street robbery to come forward. Community members who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area around the time of the attack are encouraged to contact authorities.

Police are also asking residents and businesses in the vicinity to review surveillance footage that could assist in identifying the suspect. Any videos or images that may help advance the investigation can be submitted directly to investigators.
