COLUMBUS, Ohio — A devastating multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 71 has claimed the lives of a young family, leaving a community in mourning and raising questions about safety in construction zones.
Deadly Crash Involving Multiple Vehicles
Authorities say the crash happened Saturday evening just before 6:30 p.m. on Interstate 71 near the Route 37 interchange.
According to investigators, a semi-truck driver allegedly failed to slow down for backed-up traffic and crashed into several vehicles, triggering a chain-reaction collision involving at least nine cars.
The impact caused multiple vehicles to catch fire, creating a chaotic and deadly scene along the highway.
Family of Three Killed at Scene
Among those killed were Lynnea Soposki, her husband Luke Soposki, and their one-year-old son, Logan.
The family was traveling in a Chevrolet Silverado when they became caught in the crash.
All three were pronounced dead at the scene, while three other individuals were injured.
Crash Occurred in Construction Zone
Officials noted that the crash happened in an active construction zone where traffic had been reduced to a single lane.
The change in traffic flow reportedly contributed to congestion in the area, creating the conditions that led to the collision.
Suspect Charged in Connection With Crash
The driver of the semi-truck, Modou F. Ngom, has been charged with vehicular homicide.
Prosecutors allege that he failed to stop as traffic slowed ahead, leading to the deadly chain reaction.
He appeared in court and was given a $500,000 bond. If convicted, he could face between one and five years in prison, along with fines.
Authorities have indicated that additional charges could still be filed as the investigation continues.
Community Remembers the Family
Friends and community members are remembering the Soposki family as loving, kind, and devoted to one another.

Ongoing Investigation
Officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including traffic conditions and driver actions leading up to the incident.
The tragedy has highlighted the dangers of highway congestion, especially in construction zones where traffic patterns can change quickly.
