Brooklyn, New York — A quiet Monday morning at a Brooklyn laundromat turned deadly after a masked gunman allegedly stormed inside and executed a man who was washing clothes with his wife, according to police and witnesses.
The shocking shooting also left an innocent bystander injured as panic erupted inside the business during the violent attack.
Gunman Opens Fire Inside Brooklyn Laundromat
The deadly incident happened around 8 a.m. Monday inside the Xpress Laundromat on Utica Avenue near Avenue J in Flatlands, authorities said.
Police say a 41-year-old man was inside the laundromat with his wife when a gunman dressed in black entered the business and opened fire.
According to witnesses and surveillance footage reviewed by employees, the attack happened extremely quickly.
“He just came in, he shot, and then he just left the place in less than 10 seconds,” said Sufyan Alahmadi, the 30-year-old manager of the laundromat.
Alahmadi described the horrifying moments captured on security video.
“[The killer] just took a look, and then he just grabbed the gun, and then he shot him.”
Victim Shot Multiple Times
Authorities said the targeted victim was struck multiple times during the shooting.
Emergency responders rushed the gravely wounded man to Kings County Hospital Center, but he later died from his injuries.
Police have not yet publicly released the victim’s identity.
Law enforcement sources indicated the victim had a criminal record and investigators are examining whether the shooting may have been gang-related.
The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue reviewing surveillance footage and searching for the suspect.
Innocent Bystander Injured During Attack
During the shooting, a stray bullet reportedly struck a 68-year-old bystander in the foot.
Authorities said the older man was not the intended target and had no criminal history.
The injured bystander was transported to a hospital and is currently listed in stable condition.
The random injury added to the chaos and fear experienced by those inside the laundromat during the sudden attack.
Surveillance Video Captures Chilling Moments
According to Alahmadi, he had not yet arrived at work when the shooting occurred, but later reviewed surveillance footage from inside the laundromat.
He said the footage appeared to show the suspect concealing the weapon before entering the business.
Once inside, the gunman allegedly pulled out the firearm and immediately began shooting before quickly fleeing the area.
Authorities said the suspect was last seen wearing all black clothing and a black mask.
No arrests have been announced as of now.
Crime Scene Leaves Community Shaken
After the shooting, police taped off the laundromat as investigators worked the scene for evidence.
Witnesses described seeing blood splattered across the floor while officers gathered information and reviewed security footage.
The brazen nature of the daytime shooting has left many nearby residents shaken, especially given how quickly the violence unfolded in a normally routine public setting.
The case marks yet another violent incident in New York City involving a suspected targeted shooting in a crowded area.
Police are continuing to search for the gunman and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
