CHICAGO, IL – A 32-year-old man has died after being pulled unresponsive from Lake Michigan near Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood on Thursday afternoon.
Emergency Response Near Lake Shore Drive
Emergency crews responded to the 2500 block of North Lake Shore Drive around 3:00 p.m. following reports of a person in the water. First responders located the man and quickly pulled him to shore.
He was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, where medical staff later pronounced him dead.
Victim Identified
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has officially identified the victim as Matthew McCullough.
Authorities have not yet released details regarding how McCullough ended up in the water or how long he had been submerged before rescue teams arrived.

Chicago Police have launched a death investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. No further details regarding the cause of death have been made public as detectives await the results of an autopsy.
