BREAUX BRIDGE, LA – A St. Martin Parish man is behind bars after leading deputies on two separate vehicle pursuits, jumping into a pond, swimming across Bayou Teche twice, and scaling a tree in a wild attempt to escape custody on Monday, June 1.
The First Pursuit
The incident began around 9:30 a.m. near Breaux Bridge when deputies attempted a traffic stop on Cecilia Senior High School Highway. The driver, later identified as 38-year-old Brock Robin, refused to pull over.
Robin, who was already wanted on active narcotics warrants, crashed his vehicle at a roundabout in Henderson but managed to continue onto Interstate 10. He eventually ditched his car, jumped into a nearby pond, and temporarily vanished.
The Bayou Swim and Second Chase
Hours later, citizens reported seeing Robin running along Anse Broussard Highway. When deputies cornered him, Robin plunged into Bayou Teche, swimming completely across to the other side to avoid the police perimeter.
By 5:30 p.m., investigators spotted Robin jumping into a getaway vehicle driven by 35-year-old Corie Begnaud of St. Martinville. This triggered a second high-speed pursuit through the parish. During the chase, Robin leaped out of the moving vehicle and swam across the bayou for a second time.
The Tree Arrest and Serious Charges
With help from the Breaux Bridge Police Department, deputies tracked Robin to a property on Sidonia Drive, where they found him hidden up in a tree. He was ordered down and arrested without further incident.
- Brock Robin faces heavy charges including possession with intent to distribute Schedule I, II, and IV narcotics, and drug paraphernalia.
- Corie Begnaud was arrested and charged with aggravated flight from an officer, which carries up to five years in prison under Louisiana law.
Local Community Reacts
The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office social media post quickly went viral, with local residents poking fun at Robin’s extreme escape tactics. One top commenter joked, “Lmao. He was practicing for the upcoming Olympics,” while another wrote, “Dude swam across the bayou twice; he will have pink eye for 7 months.”
Both suspects are currently being held at the parish jail and are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
