MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE — A 43-year-old woman is being held on a $250,000 bond after police say she stabbed a man multiple times outside a North Memphis grocery store on Sunday afternoon.
Brenda Richelle Colbert has been charged with criminal attempt first-degree murder, according to the Memphis Police Department.
Stabbing Reported at B-52 Market on Hollywood Street
Officers responded just minutes after noon on March 15 to reports of an aggravated assault in the 1200 block of Hollywood Street at B-52 Market.
When police arrived at the scene, they found a man lying face-up on the ground suffering from multiple stab wounds.
According to the police report, the victim told officers he had been stabbed by a woman he identified as Brenda Richelle Colbert.
Suspect Allegedly Retrieved Knife From Vehicle
Investigators said the victim told them that during an interaction between the two, Colbert became upset. He stated that she then went to her vehicle, retrieved a knife, and ran toward him.
The victim reported that he was able to dodge the first two stabbing attempts. However, he said he was eventually cornered against a truck and stabbed multiple times when he could no longer move out of the way.
Police said Colbert fled the scene in a 2007 white Ford Focus following the attack.
Vehicle Located and Knife Recovered
Authorities later located a white Ford Focus with drive-out tags matching the description parked in the 2300 block of Hunter Avenue.
Colbert was taken into custody without incident.
Officers conducted a search of the vehicle and reported finding a knife inside a storage pouch behind the passenger seat.
Charges and Bond
Brenda Richelle Colbert has been formally charged with criminal attempt first-degree murder.
She is currently being held on a $250,000 bond, according to jail records.
Authorities have not released additional details about the relationship between Colbert and the victim or what may have sparked the altercation.
