PASCO COUNTY, FL – An off-duty federal officer is being hailed as a hero after leaping into a community pool fully clothed to rescue an unconscious 6-year-old child.
The Life-Saving Rescue
Gregory Simmonds, an officer with ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations office in Tampa, was at a local community pool on Florida’s Gulf Coast when he noticed the child struggling and floating face down.
Closed-circuit security footage from the pool area captured the moment Simmonds spotted the emergency. Without hesitation, he dove straight into the water to pull the juvenile to safety.
Immediate Medical Aid
Once back at the edge of the pool, Simmonds immediately administered CPR on the unresponsive child until they regained consciousness.
Emergency responders and the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that due to Simmonds’ rapid intervention, the child is now expected to make a full recovery.
