CULVER CITY, CA – An armed carjacking suspect deliberately targeted pedestrians during a violent police pursuit from Culver City to downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday evening, leaving at least eight people injured.
The Crime Spree Begins
According to the Culver City Police Department, the suspect, identified as Juan Luis Estrada, initially stole a vehicle at knifepoint in downtown Los Angeles.
About an hour later, Estrada surfaced in Culver City, where he began using the stolen vehicle to intentionally target people. Police officers located the suspect after witnessing him running red lights, speeding, and driving on the wrong side of the road.
Pedestrians And Children Targeted
During his rampage across the city, Estrada struck a total of eight individuals. The victims, ranging in age from 15 to 70 years old, included:
- Four pedestrians struck initially in Culver City.
- Two additional pedestrians hit during the ensuing police chase.
- Two children who were riding on an e-bike.
- A Culver City police officer.
Authorities confirmed that all victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were listed in stable condition as of Tuesday night.
The Dramatic Arrest
Using surveillance technology, law enforcement tracked the vehicle and initiated a high-speed pursuit. The dangerous chase finally came to an end in downtown Los Angeles, where Estrada crashed head-on into another vehicle inside a McDonald’s drive-thru. He was immediately taken into custody.
Estrada now faces a long list of severe charges, including attempted murder and felony assault.
