Teen Charged With Murder In Grant Park Bicyclist Shooting

CHICAGO, IL – An 18-year-old Oak Park resident has been charged with first-degree murder following the fatal shooting of a bicyclist in Grant Park on Tuesday morning.

The Incident at Grant Park

According to the Chicago Police Department, the incident occurred around 12:15 a.m. on Tuesday in the 300 block of East Jackson Drive.

The victim, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office as 27-year-old Malik Jones of Chicago, was riding his bicycle on the sidewalk when he was shot. Emergency responders rushed Jones to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Suspect Arrested in Oak Park

Following an intensive investigation, detectives identified the gunman as Eliel Argudo-Tenorio. Police arrested Argudo-Tenorio on Tuesday evening at his residence in Oak Park.

He has been officially charged with one count of first-degree murder and is scheduled to appear in court for a detention hearing this Friday.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities have not yet released a motive for the shooting or stated whether the suspect and the victim knew each other. Downtown area patrols remain alert as detectives continue to process evidence from the scene.
