Suspect Arrested Following Deadly Pomona Apartment Shooting And Pursuit

POMONA, CA – A 48-year-old Pomona resident is in custody following a double homicide at a local apartment complex and a high-speed, multi-city police pursuit across Los Angeles County on Thursday.

The Fatal Shooting

The incident began just before 3:20 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 100 block of East Monterey Avenue. Pomona Police Department officers responding to the scene discovered a man and a woman suffering from gunshot wounds in a hallway.

Both victims succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released their identities pending family notification.

High-Speed Freeway Pursuit

The suspect, identified as Robert Galtman, fled the scene in a black Kia sedan. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) later spotted the vehicle heading northbound on the 5 Freeway near Roxford Street.

When Galtman failed to yield just before 5:30 p.m., a lengthy pursuit began. Multiple CHP units trailed the suspect as he exited the freeway around 6:15 p.m., moving onto Lake Hughes Road and traversing remote areas of Newhall.

Tactical Stop in Lancaster

Nearly 30 minutes later, the pursuit entered a populated area of Lancaster. To protect public safety, officers deployed tactical measures to end the chase:

  • Spike Strips: Deployed just after 7:00 p.m., flattening at least two of the sedan’s tires.
  • PIT Maneuver: Executed minutes later, successfully forcing the vehicle to a halt at 20th Street West and West Avenue K.

Galtman was taken into custody without further incident. The motive behind the double shooting remains under active investigation by the Pomona Police Department.
