BYNUM, TX – A devastating head-on collision between a car and a van left six people dead, including two children, and another child hospitalized in Hill County on Saturday afternoon.
The Collision on Highway 171
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the tragic accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on State Highway 171 near FM 3155, located between the communities of Bynum and Malone.
Investigators stated that a Nissan traveling northbound attempted to pass another vehicle when it collided head-on with an oncoming Ford van. The impact caused a fierce fire at the scene.
Casualties and Hospitalization
The crash resulted in immediate fatalities in both vehicles:
- Inside the Ford Van: Two adults and two children were killed.
- Inside the Nissan: Two occupants died in the crash.
A third child traveling in the Ford van survived the impact and was rushed to a nearby hospital. DPS officials confirmed that the surviving child’s injuries are considered non-life-threatening.
Investigation Active
State Highway 171 was closed for several hours as emergency crews cleared the wreckage and accident reconstruction teams documented the scene.
The identities of the victims have not yet been made public as authorities work to notify next of kin. The DPS investigation into the exact circumstances of the crash remains active.
