Baltimore Porch Pirate Caught on Video Snatching Birthday Gift in Broad Daylight

BALTIMORE, MD — Residents in the Greektown neighborhood are on high alert after a bold “porch pirate” was captured on camera stealing a package just moments after it was delivered. The incident, which took place on S. Macon Street, has left neighbors frustrated and calling for increased police accountability.

The theft occurred in the middle of the day, a detail that has particularly unsettled those living in the tight-knit community.

Caught on Camera

Doorbell camera footage shared with local investigators shows a woman exiting what appears to be a white delivery van. Without hesitation, she walks directly up to a resident’s porch, snatches a package, and retreats to the vehicle before the homeowner could even reach the front door.

A neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous out of fear for their safety, expressed total shock at the audacity of the crime.

“To just hop out in broad daylight and steal someone’s packages, I was appalled,” the neighbor told CBS News Baltimore.

A Stolen Birthday Surprise

The contents of the package added a layer of heartbreak to the crime. According to neighbor Derrick Simpson, the stolen parcel contained a birthday gift intended for a young family member.

Simpson noted that package theft has become a high-speed game of cat-and-mouse in the area. “Sometimes you’ll get packages delivered, and you’ll sit and watch Amazon, and they will tell you it got dropped off, and by the time you get to the front door, it’s gone,” he said.

Police Investigation Underway

The victim has officially reached out to the Baltimore City Police Department and provided them with the high-definition video of the suspect and the getaway van.

While the police have yet to issue a formal statement or announce an arrest, the community has a clear message for the woman in the video: “Don’t do it again, you will get caught.”

How to Protect Your Deliveries

With “broad daylight” thefts on the rise in Baltimore, local safety advocates suggest the following tips for residents:

  • Use Amazon Hub Lockers: Have packages delivered to a secure locker instead of a porch.
  • Require Signatures: Ensure high-value items aren’t left unattended.
  • Coordinate with Neighbors: If you aren’t home, ask a neighbor to grab the package as soon as the delivery notification hits your phone.

What do you think, Baltimore? Have you noticed an increase in package thefts in Greektown or surrounding neighborhoods? What should the penalty be for people caught stealing gifts from porches?
