JERSEY CITY, NJ – Five women are recovering in the hospital after an unidentified individual drove up and threw acid on them in Jersey City Monday afternoon.
The Attack on Wilkinson Avenue
The incident occurred outside a property near 105 Wilkinson Avenue. According to preliminary information from the Jersey City Police Department, the five victims were standing outside when a vehicle pulled up. Individuals inside the car then threw a liquid, believed to be sulfuric acid, directly at the group before fleeing the scene.
Injuries and Current Condition
Emergency responders rushed all five women to a local hospital. Medical officials confirmed that the victims suffered skin burns and peeling. Fortunately, the injuries have been classified as non-life-threatening, and all five victims are currently in stable condition.
Targeted Dispute Under Investigation
Jersey City Police state that this was not a random act of violence. Initial findings suggest the attack was highly targeted and likely stemmed from a dispute involving a large group of people earlier in the day.
The investigation remains active as detectives work to identify the vehicle and the suspects involved. No arrests have been made as of Tuesday morning.
