PHILADELPHIA, PA – Detectives from the Philadelphia Police Department’s Shooting Investigation Group are on the scene of a violent incident that left four people wounded Tuesday evening in West Philadelphia.
Gunfire Erupts on North 42nd Street
The shooting occurred around 5:10 p.m. on May 12 in the 1200 block of North 42nd Street. Officers arriving at the scene discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition.
Shortly after, authorities were notified that three additional victims had arrived at the hospital by private vehicle:
- A 38-year-old woman (shot in the leg)
- A 41-year-old man (shot in the foot)
- A 45-year-old man (shot in the leg)
All four victims are currently listed in stable condition.
Evidence and Surveillance
Chief Inspector Scott Small confirmed that investigators recovered six spent shell casings from a semi-automatic weapon, along with a folding knife at the scene.
Surveillance cameras in the area captured footage of several individuals fleeing the scene immediately after the shots were fired. Detectives are currently reviewing that video to identify potential suspects.
Community in Shock
The shooting occurred in an area where local residents say children frequently play. One neighbor, Aaliyah Brown, expressed her fear, noting that many children are usually traveling up and down the street near the bus stop where the gunfire broke out.
Additionally, a parked car—only two weeks old—was riddled with bullets. The owner, Kevin Kelly, reported that he had exited the vehicle just minutes before the shooting began.
Investigation Details
Police have blocked off a portion of North 42nd Street as the investigation continues. While evidence is being processed, officials stated that a motive for the shooting remains unknown and no arrests have been made at this time.
