LONG BEACH, CA – A 4-year-old child remains in critical but stable condition after falling from a fifth-story window or balcony at a Long Beach apartment building on Wednesday evening.

Emergency Response on Long Beach Boulevard

Long Beach Police officers rushed to the 1000 block of Long Beach Boulevard at approximately 6:00 p.m. following reports of a severe fall.

Upon arrival, emergency responders located the injured child and immediately transported them to a local hospital. Officials confirmed the toddler survived the drop but sustained severe injuries.

Witnesses Describe Emotional Scene

Neighbors and nearby workers reported a chaotic and emotional scene immediately following the accident. A woman walking past the building witnessed the child land directly in front of her.

Wally Suner, who works near the apartment complex, ran over to assist after hearing the commotion. He described the heartbreaking moment the mother realized what happened, shouting for her baby as paramedics loaded the child into the ambulance.

Investigation Into Safety Standards

Authorities are still working to determine exactly how the child fell and whether the incident involved an open window or a balcony railing.

The corporate owners of the apartment building have been contacted regarding the safety of the units, but they have not yet issued an official statement. The Long Beach Police Department is continuing its investigation into the circumstances leading up to the fall.
