Camarillo Man Killed In Santa Rosa Road Hit-And-Run

SANTA ROSA VALLEY, CA – A family is devastated and searching for answers after 30-year-old Camarillo resident Steven Monzon was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver on a dark stretch of road.

Dropped Off Along Dangerous Road

The incident occurred just before 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 7. Monzon was taking an Uber ride home after visiting his fiancée in Moorpark when he was dropped off roughly halfway through his journey on Santa Rosa Road, near Gerry Road.

Family members noted that this specific area of the Santa Rosa Valley is notoriously dark at night and completely lacks sidewalks. According to 911 call logs, Monzon was using his cell phone light to flag down a passing motorist for assistance when a black sedan struck him.

The driver fled the scene immediately. Monzon’s cell phone and shoes were later recovered by investigators nearly 100 yards away from the impact site.

Family Pleads For Answers

Monzon’s parents, Steven Monzon Sr. and Maribel Monzon, described their son as a kind, loyal individual who loved music and dreamed of becoming a private investigator. He had been with his fiancée, Lily, for four years.

“I just want answers, clarity and I’d like to have justice for him,” his mother told reporters, urging the driver responsible to step forward.

CHP Investigation and Search for Suspect

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has classified the incident as a fatal hit-and-run. Currently, the suspect remains at large, and authorities are searching for any leads regarding the black sedan involved in the collision.

Officials are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, noticed a damaged black sedan in the area, or possesses relevant dashcam footage to contact investigators.
