DOUGLASVILLE, GA – A Georgia man and woman face murder charges after authorities say they killed a popular Atlanta bartender, dismembered his body, and dumped his remains in a local reservoir.
The Arrests and Charges
Mario Andre Barber (46) and Brittany Amber Baker (42) were arrested following a intense investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. Both suspects pleaded not guilty during their first court appearance and are currently being held without bond.
Authorities believe the victim, Jamal Rashad Parker (37), was killed inside a Douglasville residence where Baker lived. While a motive has not been released, a fundraiser organized by Parker’s family notes that the victim knew and trusted the suspects.
Discovery and DNA Identification
The case began late last month when investigators discovered human remains in the Dog River Reservoir, located roughly 30 miles outside Atlanta.
Because of the condition of the remains, forensic teams used advanced DNA comparison technology to confirm the identity. The process was aided after Parker’s father contacted the sheriff’s office, noting that the unique tattoos on the recovered remains matched his son’s ink.
Evidence Uncovered at the Scene
During a search of the Douglasville home where the crime allegedly took place, investigators were seen removing significant evidence, including:
- A reciprocating saw
- Industrial cleaning supplies
- Additional forensic materials
Remembering Jamal Parker
Parker was a well-known professional bartender at Ms. Icey’s Kitchen & Bar in Atlanta. Family members also described him as a passionate visual artist and musician who loved connecting with people throughout his career.
The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to piece together the final timeline leading up to the incident.
