Murfreesboro, Arkansas — A Pennsylvania woman grieving the heartbreaking losses of both her son and father experienced an emotional and unexpected moment of hope after discovering a rare 3.09-carat diamond during a visit to Arkansas’ famous Crater of Diamonds State Park.
The discovery came during what was meant to be a meaningful getaway with family, but it quickly turned into a life-changing experience the woman says she desperately needed.
Emotional Trip Turns Into Unforgettable Discovery
Keshia Smith traveled to the popular Arkansas state park last month alongside her boyfriend Joey and her brother Kirim. According to reports, Smith had planned the trip more than a year earlier, long before tragedy struck her family.
Smith arrived at the park on April 21 and made the incredible discovery on the second day of her visit while digging in the south side of the park’s 37-acre search area.
The diamond was later confirmed by park staff to be a genuine 3.09-carat white diamond, making it one of the more notable finds by a visitor this year.
Woman Speaks About Her Heartbreak
The emotional significance of the discovery made headlines after Smith opened up about the painful losses she had endured in recent months.
“I have felt so much pressure the last six months. In October, I lost my son, and we just buried my dad a week ago. It has been a lot!” Smith said in a statement. “I really needed this. I really prayed for this, and I just can’t believe it actually happened!”
Her words resonated deeply with many people online, with social media users describing the moment as emotional, symbolic, and even spiritual.
Diamond Appeared Heart-Shaped
According to Smith, the gem immediately stood out to her because of its unique appearance.
“To me it looks like a heart. That’s the first thing I saw when I found it,” Smith said.

Experts say a 3.09-carat round diamond can range significantly in value depending on factors such as clarity and color. Estimates suggest the stone could potentially be worth anywhere between $12,000 and more than $95,000.
Special Name Chosen for the Gem
Smith decided to give the diamond a meaningful name: the Za’Novia Liberty Diamond.
According to Arkansas State Parks, the name honors her grandchildren while also recognizing America’s 250th birthday celebration this year.
The park later celebrated the discovery in a Facebook post, writing:
“Moments like this remind us why Crater of Diamonds State Park is such a special place.”
