He Jumped Off a Ski Boat at Lake Allatoona — Then Vanished Underwater. Rescuers Have Been Searching Ever Since

A 27-year-old man disappeared beneath the surface of Lake Allatoona on Sunday afternoon and has not resurfaced. An overnight search is now underway.

A desperate search is underway at Lake Allatoona in Bartow County after a 27-year-old man jumped from the back of a ski boat and never came back up.

The incident was reported at approximately 12:49 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, near Glade Marina. Game wardens and Bartow County Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the scene after receiving reports of a possible drowning.

According to authorities, the man exited the rear of the ski boat, went beneath the water’s surface, and failed to resurface. Witnesses on the boat reportedly waited for him to reappear — but he never did.

Rescue teams launched an immediate water search, deploying boat-mounted SONAR technology to scan the lake’s floor in the area where the man was last seen. As the afternoon turned to evening, additional personnel and equipment were brought in to support the operation.

Authorities confirmed the search continued through the night. Both the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and Bartow County Fire and Emergency Services are leading the recovery effort.

Lake Allatoona, a popular summer destination located about 30 miles north of Atlanta, draws thousands of boaters and swimmers during the summer months. Drowning incidents at the lake have been a recurring concern for local safety officials in recent years.

No further details about the missing man’s identity have been released at this time. The search remains active, and authorities have not yet announced a recovery.

This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
