Headless Body Found Bleach Smell Leads Police to Chilling Discovery Inside Phoenix Apartment

Phoenix, Arizona — A horrifying homicide investigation is unfolding in Phoenix, Arizona, after police discovered a headless and dismembered body hidden inside a closet at a local apartment complex, leading to the arrest of a 32-year-old man.

Authorities described the case as one of the most disturbing scenes investigators have encountered.

Police Discover Dismembered Body Inside Apartment

According to court documents, officers responded to reports of a possible homicide around 9 p.m. on May 7 at an apartment in Phoenix.

When police entered the residence, they reportedly detected a strong smell of bleach and chemicals coming from inside the apartment. Officers also found cleaning supplies scattered throughout the scene, including bleach bottles, wet blankets, and what were described as “red substances.”

Investigators soon uncovered a gruesome discovery inside a closet.

Authorities said the victim’s body appeared to “be dismembered” and was missing its head and hands. The corpse had allegedly been wrapped in carpet and an air mattress before being tied with an extension cord.

“This is brutal. This is awful. This is, you know, a word almost doesn’t, it’s not good enough to really describe this,” Phoenix Police Sergeant Robert Scherer said.

Suspect Arrested in Connection With Killing

Police arrested Christopher Ebanks, 32, in connection with the case.

According to investigators, detectives were contacted by the father of a woman who claimed her boyfriend had been killed by his “associate,” known to her as “Draco,” who was later identified as Ebanks.

Authorities say the victim, the woman, and Ebanks had reportedly been drinking together inside the apartment before an argument broke out between the two men.

Court documents allege that Ebanks then pulled out a hatchet during the confrontation.

Witness Claims She Saw Deadly Attack

The woman reportedly told detectives she witnessed Ebanks stab her boyfriend multiple times during the violent altercation.

According to court records, she said the suspect later told her, “we need to clean this up.”

Investigators allege Ebanks then placed the victim’s severed head and hands into a suitcase before forcing the woman to drive him to another apartment.

Authorities further claim the woman was made to shower “at knife or gunpoint” in an effort to destroy evidence connected to the killing.

Police emphasized that investigators believe the woman acted under extreme fear and coercion.

“Our detectives are extremely confident that this individual is a victim and extremely confident that anything that they may have done throughout this whole scenario was in duress,” Scherer said.

Suspect Facing Serious Charges

Following his arrest, Ebanks was charged with multiple crimes, including murder and kidnapping.

Officials confirmed he is currently being held on a $1 million bond and is scheduled to appear back in court on May 14.
