Acworth, Georgia — A security guard is being remembered as a hero after police say he was fatally shot while trying to break up a fight between a man and a woman outside a Georgia bar early Saturday morning.
Authorities identified the victim as 28-year-old Jordan Alexander Jones of Lawrenceville, who was working security at a bar in Acworth when the shooting occurred.
According to the Acworth Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire around 2:42 a.m. and found Jones suffering from a gunshot wound.
Officers attempted life-saving measures at the scene
When police arrived, officers immediately began trying to save the victim’s life while waiting for emergency responders.
Officers provided aid until Cobb County Fire and Metro EMS arrived at the scene.
Jones was transported to Kennestone Hospital, where medical staff later pronounced him dead from his injuries.
Police said they later contacted Jones’ family to notify them of the tragedy.
Police identify suspect in shooting
Investigators identified the suspect as 25-year-old Daniel Di Vonne Parsons of Douglasville, Georgia.
Authorities say Parsons had been involved in a fight prior to the shooting, which Jones attempted to stop while working security at the location.
Police said the victim stepped in to break up the altercation when the suspect allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot him.
After the shooting, officers located Parsons walking near Baker Road, where he was taken into custody without incident.
Suspect now facing multiple charges
Authorities confirmed that Parsons is facing several serious charges connected to the incident.
Those charges include:
- Aggravated assault
- Aggravated battery
- Aggravated murder
Officials say the investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.
According to jail records, Parsons is currently being held without bail at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.
Family remembers victim as someone who helped others
Family members say Jones was known for stepping in when he saw someone in trouble.
His uncle, Edward Jones, described him as someone who didn’t ignore situations where people needed help.
“He’s not going to just stand by and watch something wrong happen,” his uncle said.
According to family members, Jones had attempted to peacefully separate the people involved in the altercation before the shooting occurred.
Bar calls guard a “brave individual”
Following the incident, the bar where Jones worked released a statement expressing grief over the loss.

The bar said the incident occurred in the parking lot after the venue had already closed for the night.
