IOWA CITY, Iowa — Authorities in Iowa City are asking for the public’s help as they continue to search for a suspect involved in a bank robbery late Friday morning.
According to the Iowa City Police Department, officers were called to a robbery at a Hills Bank location on Muscatine Avenue at approximately 10:19 a.m. The suspect was reported fleeing the bank on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash shortly after the incident occurred.
Suspect Captured on Surveillance Cameras
Investigators confirmed that the individual was captured on the bank’s internal security cameras. While police have not yet released a description of the suspect or images from the footage, they say the video is being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.
Officers canvassed the area surrounding Muscatine Avenue shortly after the robbery, checking nearby streets and businesses, but the suspect was not immediately located.
Police Ask Community for Help
The Iowa City Police Department is encouraging residents and business owners in the area to review their own security and doorbell camera footage from around the time of the robbery. Detectives believe additional video evidence could help track the suspect’s movements before or after the crime.
Anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity or who has relevant footage is urged to contact police as soon as possible.
