An 18-year-old man in Louisville is facing serious felony charges after police say he assaulted a teenage boy with a handgun and then ordered a 13-year-old accomplice to shoot the victim.
Chrishau’d Davis, 18, has been charged with murder, first-degree assault, and second-degree assault in connection with the violent incident. According to jail records from the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections, Davis was taken into custody Tuesday and remains held pending court proceedings.
The case stems from an altercation that unfolded Friday afternoon on the 900 block of South Shelby Street. Authorities say the confrontation began around 4 p.m., when surveillance footage captured Davis and a 13-year-old boy engaged in a physical fight with another 13-year-old.
Investigators allege that during the fight, Davis struck the victim in the head multiple times with a handgun. The blows reportedly caused significant injuries before the situation escalated further.
Although the surveillance footage temporarily lost sight of the individuals involved, police say the two suspects returned moments later. At that point, Davis allegedly pulled a handgun from inside his jacket, handed it to the 13-year-old, and shouted for him to kill the victim.
The younger suspect then allegedly fired several shots at the injured teen before both suspects fled the scene on foot.
Officers with the Louisville Metro Police Department responded to reports of gunfire and arrived to find the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency responders transported the teen for medical treatment. Authorities have not publicly released details about the victim’s current condition.
The 13-year-old suspect has been charged with attempted murder and two counts of assault. Due to his age, additional proceedings related to juvenile court jurisdiction may follow.
Davis was scheduled to appear in court for arraignment Wednesday. Prosecutors are expected to outline the formal charges and potential penalties at that time. If convicted on the most serious counts, Davis could face decades in prison.
The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue reviewing surveillance footage and gathering witness statements to determine the full sequence of events that led to the shooting.
Police have not indicated whether additional individuals may face charges.
