Mass Shooting at Arcadia Lake Party Leaves at Least 12 Hospitalized; Police Launch Metro-Wide Manhunt

EDMOND, OK — A massive gathering of young people at Arcadia Lake turned into a scene of chaos and terror on Sunday night after a shooting left at least 12 people injured. Law enforcement agencies from across the Oklahoma City metro area are currently working to identify suspects as victims remain in various conditions at local hospitals.

Gunfire Erupts at Popular Recreation Spot

The violence broke out around 9:00 PM near the shores of Arcadia Lake, a popular artificial reservoir used for boating, camping, and picnicking. Edmond Police spokesperson Emily Ward confirmed that authorities received frantic reports of shots being fired during a large party attended by a significant number of young residents.

“This is obviously a very terrifying situation,” Ward said during a late-night press briefing. “We understand the concern from the public and those involved, and we are working extremely hard to find the suspects.”

Medical Response and Victim Status

The scale of the incident overwhelmed initial emergency responses, with victims scattered across multiple facilities.

  • 10 victims were transported via ambulance to local emergency rooms.
  • At least two others reportedly drove themselves to hospitals.
  • Integris Health Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City is treating nine of the victims.
  • Integris Health Edmond Hospital received three additional patients.

As of early Monday morning, hospital spokespersons stated that all patients were still being assessed, with their conditions ranging from stable to critical.

Police Search for Suspects

Despite the high number of witnesses present at the lake, no arrests had been made by late Sunday night. Edmond police investigators are currently spread across the metro area, interviewing survivors and witnesses at various hospitals to piece together a description of the shooter or shooters.

To assist distraught families, police established a reunification center at a local Walmart, where parents and relatives gathered to wait for news on their loved ones.

A Community Shaken by History

For the residents of Edmond, a suburb of about 100,000 people, this incident brings back painful memories of the city’s history with gun violence.

Exactly forty years ago, Edmond was the site of one of the deadliest workplace shootings in U.S. history. On August 20, 1986, postal worker Patrick Sherrill killed 14 of his co-workers at the local post office before taking his own life. While Sunday’s shooting occurred in a recreational setting, the impact on this close-knit community is profound.
