Next Weather Alert Issued For Friday Rain And Storms In Massachusetts

BOSTON, MA – Local meteorologists have issued a Next Weather Alert for Friday as a combination of early morning showers and isolated afternoon thunderstorms threatens to disrupt daily commutes across Massachusetts.

Morning Commute Impact

The weather system will begin with a quick-hitting line of showers during the early morning hours on Friday. Commuters should prepare for brief traffic delays and wet road conditions during the peak morning rush.

The rain is expected to clear out around lunchtime, giving way to a brief dry period with some sunshine.

Afternoon Thunderstorm Risk

While much of the state will remain dry for the majority of the day, the midday sun could fuel highly localized, strong thunderstorms later in the afternoon.

  • Storm Window: The widest window for storm development is between 3:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.
  • Primary Hazards: The main threats with these isolated storms are frequent lightning and strong, straight-line winds.

Marginal Risk Level

The National Weather Service has placed Massachusetts under a Level 1 out of 5 (Marginal) risk for severe weather. Because the storms are quick-moving and scattered, excessive rainfall is not expected to be a major factor.

Most areas will average just over a tenth of an inch of rain, though areas directly hit by an afternoon storm could see locally higher amounts. Residents are advised to stay weather-aware during the evening commute.
